Counselling & Psychotherapy
Counselling and Psychotherapy in Buckinghamshire and Kent
Space to explore experiences, emotions and relationships in depth, at your own pace.
Talking therapy can give you room to understand what has happened, how it affects you now and what you would like to be different. My approach is integrative and trauma-informed, so we can draw on other methods where they are useful, without expecting you to fit one model.

What Is Counselling and Psychotherapy?
A place to think things through
Counselling and psychotherapy give you a regular, confidential space to talk. Rather than retelling the past, the focus is on understanding how your experiences connect with your life now.
You decide what you share and when. We can begin with what feels most pressing and let the work develop from there.
What We May Explore
Talking therapy can give you space to explore:
The focus is not simply on retelling the past. It is on understanding how your experiences connect with your life now.
Relationships
How you relate to partners, friends, family and colleagues, and what repeats.
Family experiences
The part earlier experiences may play in how you feel today, without blame.
Beliefs about yourself
The thoughts you carry about your worth, your needs and what you deserve.
Trust and boundaries
What makes closeness, trust and saying no feel difficult or easy.
Loss, anger and fear
Feelings that are hard to name, hold or settle.
Closeness and distance
Patterns of moving towards or away from other people.
Alongside Other Approaches
Counselling can sit alongside other methods
Depending on what you need, counselling and psychotherapy may be combined with other approaches within an integrative plan.
Approach
Trauma Therapy
A trauma-informed approach, paced around you, with preparation before any processing work.

EMDR Therapy
A structured approach commonly used when distressing memories continue to affect the present.

Somatic Body Psychotherapy

CBT and DBT-informed skills

How Long Does It Take?
There is no fixed number of sessions
The length of therapy depends on what you want to work on, how longstanding the difficulties are and how the work develops. I do not promise a particular number of sessions or outcome, and we can review progress together as therapy develops.
What does counselling cost?
You can find current session fees, payment options and cancellation terms on the fees page. If you are unsure which appointment applies to you, you are welcome to get in touch before booking.

Common Questions
Counselling and psychotherapy FAQs
Do I need to know what I want to talk about?
No. You can begin with what feels most pressing, or simply with how things are for you now. We can decide together what is useful to explore.
Do I have to talk about everything that happened?
No. You decide what you share and when. There can be time for preparation before working more directly with difficult experiences.
Is counselling different from trauma therapy?
They overlap. Counselling and psychotherapy provide space to explore experiences, relationships and patterns more broadly. Trauma therapy may also draw on structured approaches such as EMDR. Genovieve works integratively, so the approach is shaped around you.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. It depends on your circumstances, goals and how the work develops, and progress can be reviewed together.
When You Are Ready
You do not need to know what you want to say before getting in touch.
Start with what is happening now. We can talk about what you are looking for and what the next step may involve.
